The City of North Lauderdale was incorporated in 1963. The city prides itself on its establishment of the first municipal chartered high school in America, its beautifully maintained recreation facilities and its quality of life.

North Lauderdale was originally conceived as "The City of Tomorrow" by famed architect Morris Lapidus, fresh from his success in redefining the glittering Collins Avenue in Miami Beach with his work on the Fontainebleau Hotel, Eden Roc, Americana and other neo-baroque moderne hotel designs.

The city of North Lauderdale has a total area of 3.91 square miles, 3.88 square miles of it is land and .03 square miles of it (0.77%) is water.
