General information and History on Parkland Florida

Parkland was established in the year 1963 and has grown rapidly in a very short time. The city of predominantly residential with a small portion zoned for commercial and industrial development. The city of parkland is tucked up in the piney woods of Broward County's northwest corner, with Palm Beach County to the north and the Everglades to the west.

The City of Parkland, in Broward County, started our being a place where zoning laws were designed to protect the "parklike" character of the city. Initially, there were no stores or traffic lights in Parkland, though this changed in the early 2000s.

Parkland is the best educated city in Florida, proportionately, with 60.7% of adult residents (25 and older) holding an associate degree or higher, and 52.8% of adults possessing a baccalaureate degree or higher (2000 Census).

Parkland is situated in an ideal location where one can live a very peaceful life, while having all the amenities of a city. The city has several social organizations and groups that arrange a wide range of cultural and recreational activities. The beaches of South Florida are a short drive away. The city is surrounded by several miles of equestrian trails, which provide great opportunities for horse riding. The city also has many golf courses.

In Parkland you can find homes situated on multi-acre parcels of land with horse stalls in the back, as well as newly developed very upscale estate homes with manicured lawns and "Homes and Gardens" landscaping. It's a forest town, and trees predominate on land formerly owned by large cattle ranchers. The city of Parkland has numerous multipurpose trails for horseback riding, a tot lot and horse corral, a 9.1 acre park with sports field lighting and other amenities, and a 7.5 acre equestrian center, which was recently completed.

Parkland schools have raised the bar on education. It's public schools offer a top-notch education with plenty of choices for the students to make, both now and in the future. Several parents have even commented that sending the kids to school is like sending them to private school, but without the private school fees.
